Online study helps Jennifer level-up her career to work remotely

After 25 years in the construction industry and several qualifications under her tool belt, it’s an online course with TAFE Queensland that is helping Jennifer White level-up her building and design career.

Based in Toowoomba and working across Queensland as the Design Manager for Bryant Building Contractors, Jennifer says that learning online definitely taught her the skills needed for today’s world of working remotely.

“Today, I work for a company that is located all across Queensland and 90% of my meetings for projects are completed online,” Jennifer said.

“By studying online I learnt skills that I use every day in my work.”

After completing her Certificate IV in Engineering Drafting (MEM40412) at TAFE Queensland and while working full time, the mum-of-three decided to pursue a Diploma of Building Design (CPP50921) online.

She also successfully applied for a TAFE Queensland Scholarship, which help cover the course fees.

“The certificates I have already completed have assisted my career progression and industry knowledge, and I knew that I wanted to continue with TAFE Queensland because their reputation in the construction industry is renowned,” she said.

“Additionally, the flexibility to study online, to balance work and family commitments, and of course the scholarship, made studying a Diploma at this time in my life achievable.”

“This flexibility, along with the quality of the education provided are the reasons why I encourage people to consider TAFE Queensland as their RTO.”

Having a history of training on campus and now completing an online qualification with TAFE Queensland, Jennifer said both experiences were just as rewarding.

“The support, whether in person or online, from the teachers is brilliant. The teachers become your mentors – it is training for the real world. Everyone knows that when you finish TAFE, you can get a job pretty easily,” she said.

TAFE Queensland Scholarships

The TAFE Queensland Scholarship Program awards each recipient $5,000 to study any Certificate III through to an Advanced Diploma or Bachelor Degree from over 60 campuses locations across Queensland or online.

To be eligible, applicants must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident and must commence study in Semester 1, 2024 or be an existing TAFE Queensland first year apprentice at the time of submitting the application.

There are two types of scholarships available, one being Merit scholarships aimed at supporting people who have demonstrated strong levels of achievement to advance their careers. The second are Access and Equity scholarships which are designed to help students who are battling social or financial hardship.
