Free apprenticeships for under 25s
The Queensland Government is supporting young Queenslanders by providing access to fully-subsidised training across a range of apprenticeship and traineeship qualifications.
A range of certificate-level courses are available in high-priority areas including aged care, automotive, building and construction, child care, electro technology, engineering, cookery, hairdressing, and horticulture.
To be eligible you must be under the age of 25 and be enrolled in an eligible high-priority apprenticeship or traineeship qualification.
Certificate 3 Guarantee
This funding helps support eligible students to complete their first post-school certificate III level qualification. The Queensland Government pays the subsidy directly to TAFE Queensland for a range of eligible certificate III courses. The level of the government subsidy varies depending on the demand for skilled workers in each industry. You will be required to contribute to the costs of your training through a co-contribution fee.
To be eligible for the Certificate 3 Guarantee you must be 15 years or older, have completed or left secondary school, be an Australian citizen or permanent resident residing in Queensland (or New Zealand citizen permanently residing in Queensland), and NOT hold or be currently enrolled in a certificate III or higher level qualification.
Higher Level Skills subsidy
The Higher Level Skills subsidy supports eligible students to access subsidised training in priority skill sets and selected certificate IV or higher qualifications. Eligible courses will attract a subsidy which the Queensland Government pays directly to TAFE Queensland. Students will then need to contribute to the cost of their training through a co-contribution fee. The level of the government subsidy and the remaining amount you need to pay will depend on the demand for workers in your chosen field.
To be eligible for the Higher Level Skills Subsidy you must not already hold or be enrolled in a certificate IV or higher level qualification, be 15 years or older, have completed or left secondary school, and be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident residing in Queensland.
Construction Skills Queensland funding
If you work in the building or civil construction industries you may be eligible to access Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) funding to help reduce the cost of training. Eligible participants can receive funding to a range of training options including short courses and individual units of competency, as well as certificate, diploma and advanced diploma qualifications.
Trade Skills Assessment and Gap Training
The Trade Skills Assessment and Gap Training (TSAGT) program is designed to minimise trade skills shortages, address emerging trade skills needs in the economy, support individual career advancement, and enable individuals to attain a qualification in a priority trade area.
To be eligible for this funding you must be able to demonstrate substantial competency in a priority trade qualification. The process involved being assessed for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and then completing any required gap training in order to receive an industry-recognised qualification.
