Learn at TAFE

You can study the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) with other students like you at any of our locations across Queensland. We offer full-time or part-time classroom learning and our educators are trained in teaching English to speakers of other languages. Depending on the TAFE Queensland location you attend, classes may be held during the day, in the evening or on Saturdays. If you cannot attend classes the below study options may be suitable for you.

Distance learning

You can do some or all of the 510 hours of your AMEP course through distance learning. This option allows you to fit study around your lifestyle. You can start studying at any time and will be in regular contact with a qualified teacher.

You will receive books, CDs and other resources to help you learn and you will be expected to complete at least 5 hours a week if you choose this option.

For more information about distance learning ask your AMEP Case Manager.

Tutor support

If you cannot attend AMEP classes, or cannot attend for more than 10 hours per week, a trained volunteer tutor may provide extra support.

Your tutor will visit you once a week for about one hour, at home or another venue like a library or café. You will be matched to a tutor based on your gender, location, common interests and availability.

Self-paced e-learning

This option is available to all AMEP students who wish to fast-track their studies and can be undertaken during term or holidays. Ask your teacher or AMEP Case Manager for more information.
