Public Interest Disclosure Statement

Overview of Public Interest Disclosures

A public interest disclosure is a disclosure about suspected wrongdoing in the public sector. Allegations about wrongdoing in the public sector, by both public sector workers and members of the public, help to uncover corruption and other misuses of public resources.

The Public Interest Disclosure Act 2010 encourages the disclosure of information about suspected wrongdoing in the public sector so that it can be properly evaluated and, if necessary, appropriately investigated.

TAFE Queensland is committed to upholding the principles of the Public Interest Disclosure Act 2010 and giving appropriate consideration to the interests of people who report wrongdoing affecting the organisation.

Anyone can make a disclosure about:

  • A substantial and specific danger to the health or safety of a person with a disability;
  • The commission of an offence which is or would be a substantial and specific danger to the environment; or
  • The conduct of another person that could be reprisal.

A public sector officer may also disclose information about:

  • Official misconduct by another person;
  • Maladministration that adversely affects someone's interests in a substantial and specific way;
  • A substantial misuse of public resources;
  • A substantial and specific danger to public health or safety; and
  • A substantial and specific danger to the environment.

Strict confidentiality requirements apply to public interest disclosures, and it is an offence to take reprisal action against a discloser. A discloser is entitled to reasonable information about the action taken as a result of the public interest disclosure. For more information, visit the Queensland Ombudsman website
