Selection criteria

It is highly recommended that you have successfully completed Year 12 (or equivalent) in Australia, or alternatively if educated outside of Australia, achieved an IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. 

Please note: you may be required to complete a pre-course English proficiency test prior to enrolment.

Resources required

It is recommended that you have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader. This equipment and software is available for use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

You will be provided with a recommended reading list and/or required textbooks during orientation or at the start of each unit. The purchase of these resources may incur additional costs, or you may be able to borrow them from the TAFE Queensland library network.

Important information

Practice Teaching requirements

Students are required to complete 20 hours of practical placement - 10 hours of observation of a suitably qualified and experienced teacher and 10 hours of practice teaching while being supervised by a suitably qualified and experienced teacher. However, if you have successfully completed the LTi Certificate IV in TESOL, you will only be required to do an additional eight (8) hours of observation and practice teaching, with at least four (4) of those hours being practice teaching. This may be completed either face to face or virtually subject to availability through discussions with course supervisor. A portfolio collection of lesson plans and associated activities and resources must be submitted and assessed as part of the practice teaching requirements.

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
