Take the next step in your civil construction career with this intermediate-level course. Develop the specialised skills and knowledge required to become a building associate or civil construction supervisor.

According to the Australian Government's Job Outlook service, stable future growth is predicted for people working as building associates. This large occupational area grew very strongly over the last five years creating over 30,000 jobs. 

In this course you'll expand on your industry experience and gain specialised skills and knowledge to perform a variety of management tasks including supervising civil works, promoting innovation, and implementing traffic management plans. You'll also learn how to develop project plans, devise key performance indicators, and positively influence others. Our experienced teachers will give you the one-on-one support you need to succeed.

Successful completion of this course will qualify you to work as a civil construction supervisor. You can also consider further study to advance your career in the industry.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Selection criteria

To enrol with TAFE Queensland, you must hold a position such as a Leading Hand, Ganger, or a higher level position in the civil construction industry, and have access to a work site that fulfils the requirements of the course.  While there are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, it is recommended that you have completed a Certificate III in Civil Construction.

Resources Required

You are responsible for meeting the minimum occupational health and safety requirements in practical classes. This includes the use of safety glasses, protective footwear with covered uppers, steel capped toes and non-slip soles to AS2210, leather gloves to AS2161, and hair protection. You should also wear 100% cotton drill industry-standard clothing. If you fail to meet these minimum standards of dress, you will not be permitted entry into practical classes.

It is recommended that you have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Assessment Methods

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
