Course overview

Upgrade your career in community services with this additional skill set. This qualification is perfect for people already working in the industry, who wish to provide person-centred support to older people. The health and community sectors are experiencing a boom in Australia with more than 50,000 job openings expected over the next five years. This qualification will give you the skills needed to work in a diverse range of community and residential settings.

You will become skilled in supporting the empowerment of older people in their communities, people who have dementia and people with other complex needs. Our industry-embedded teachers offer one-on-one guidance to help you succeed in your studies no matter what flexible study option you choose.

Selection criteria

You must

  • already hold a Certificate III in Individual Support (or equivalent); or
  • be working in the Community Services and Health industry 

Placement

You are required to complete 40 hours of performance evidence that is required to be demonstrated in the workplace.

Important information

To be eligible for the Higher Level Skills subsidised price, you must:

  • be an existing worker in the Community Services Industry and Health Industry, (which includes parents and unpaid carers of NDIS participants.) Evidence must be supplied prior to enrolment.
  • be aged 15 years or over, and no longer at school;
  • permanently reside in Queensland;
  • be an Australian citizen, permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen; and
  • not hold or be currently enrolled in a Certificate IV or higher-level qualification (does not include qualifications completed at school or foundation skills training).
