Create one of kind jewellery using silver or gold
Take a journey into the wonderful world of handcrafted jewellery and learn how to make your own stud earrings, hoop earrings, chains, bangles and stone set rings! Using sterling silver, you will learn to anneal, solder and form metal whilst creating beautiful pieces of jewellery for yourself or your loved ones.
This course is perfect for you, if you're looking for a new hobby or wishing to start a career in jewellery design and manufacture. It is strongly recommended that you complete the ‘Basics of Silversmithing’ or ‘Silversmithing – Rings’ before enrolling into this course.
Week 1: Basic Health and Safety training and Stud Earrings making
Demonstrations: Reticulated Stud Earrings – design, tools and techniques
Exercise: Design and make your own reticulated stud earrings
Week 2: Classic Wire Hoops
Demonstrations: Classic wire hoops – design, tools and techniques
Exercise: Students will make a set of classic sterling silver hoops
Week 3: Bangle making
Demonstrations: Design, tools and techniques for bangle making
Exercise: Bangle fabrication and completion
Week 4: Chain making
Demonstrations: Design, tools and techniques for chain making
Exercise: Students will start working on the design of their chain
Week 5: Chain making – continued
Demonstrations: Claps – design, tools and techniques
Exercise: Chain assembly completion
Week 6: Stone Set Ring – a ring band fabrication
Demonstrations: Design, tools and techniques for making ring bands
Exercise: Students will create a simple silver ring band
Week 7: Stone Set Ring – bezels and simple claws setting fabrication
Demonstrations: Design, tools and techniques for creating a bezel or claw setting for cabochon cut stones
Exercise: Students will start working on the design and assembly of a chosen setting
Week 8: Stone Setting – continued
Demonstrations: Assembling a stone set ring – attaching setting to a ring band
Exercise: Stone set ring completion

Previous silversmithing experience is an advantage but not necessary.
Your enrolment fee includes course supplies provided at each class by the teacher which are non-refundable.

If you want to go on to further study at university, TAFE Queensland has a pathway option to get you there. In many cases, completing one of our diplomas may give you a full year of credit towards a degree with one of our partner universities.
