Course overview

Gain the basic knowledge for employment in an accounts position with MYOB, from basics through to intermediate level and also MYOB Payroll. Suitable for anyone requiring knowledge from the ground up. It will give you the confidence and basics skills you need to gain employment.

Through the Introduction to Accounting you will learn to use a range of calculation methods and techniques for conducting routine financial calculations and transactions.  You will also be instructed in manual data entry in Ledgers and Trial Balance.

This course includes Introduction to Accounting, MYOB Accounting and MYOB Payroll.

Introduction to Accounting
What is bookkeeping; Functions, responsibility; Accountant’s responsibility; Bookkeeping terminology; Double Entry Accounting (Debits and Credits); Chart of Accounts; Goods and Service Tax; Balance Sheet; The Profit and Loss Statement; Trial Balance; Journals or Ledgers; Initial transactions and documentation; Basics of Bookkeeping; Transactions; Account groups; Asset Accounts; Liability Accounts; Equity Accounts; Account Rules and Analysing Transactions; Account group rules; Analysing transactions with GST; Preparing a Trial Balance; Revision exercises.

Navigating MYOB Account Right; Creating a data file; Setting preferences; Set up Chart of Accounts; Setting up Customer and Supplier Cards; Set up Inventory and non-inventory items; Perform a Bank Reconciliation; Enter payments through Spend Money; Set up recurring Payments; Enter General Journal Entries; Back up data files; Restore data files; Enter Cash Receipts; Enter General Journal period adjustments; Work with reposts; GST Reports; End of year procedures; Process Credit Sales; Create quotes, orders and invoices; Create a Purchase Order from an existing sale; Record Customer Payments; Process returns; Deal with bad debts; Process Purchases; Record Supplier Payments; GST Reporting and Overview; MYOB Baslink; Petty Cash.

MYOB Payroll
Setting up a payroll in MYOB; entering historical information; payroll categories including payment of allowances; setting up deduction; understanding superannuation and PAYG tax; paying wages (by cash, cheque and electronically); payroll reports; end of month procedures; payment of payroll liabilities; end of year processes; payment summaries; end of year roll over; conducting a paying run; customising payroll; timesheets; entitlements; payroll obligations.

This short course is non-accredited therefore is not registered with the National Training Register.

Selection criteria

You will need to have a good understanding of the English language and be able to read and understand comprehensive manuals.​

  • Please bring a blue or black pen, pencil, eraser, writing paper, calculator and USB memory stick.
  • You will receive a comprehensive manual.
  • You will need to present your Confirmation of Enrolment to the car park attendant each week to be eligible for discounted parking.
