Course overview
The focus of this course is to master the basics and it has been devised to offer the maximum exposure to the French language and culture. A mini-immersion style will be used in class, with French language used increasingly to familiarise students with the sounds and nuances of the language.
At the end of the course, students will master the basics of the language using the four languages skills: speaking, listening, writing and reading. Students will learn the rules of pronunciation and spelling principles and will be able to communicate on topics such as greetings, introductions, and manners in a formal or informal context. You will also be able to use numbers, express date, time and phone numbers.
The course is facilitated by a native French speaker.
Areas covered include: family, jobs, hotels, holiday, grammatical explanations, charts and vocabulary listings. It is ideal for travellers or those with an interest in the language.
Subjects covered:
- greetings
- introducing yourself and others
- talking about your family and saying what you do for a living
- asking for directions
- asking for opening and closing hours
- booking a hotel room and buying a train ticket
- general shopping, buying stamps and postcards
- going to the supermarket
- eating at a restaurant, understanding the menu, ordering and paying for food
In the final class students will be encouraged to participate in a “crepe degustation”, this will be a fun cultural experience for all involved.
This short course is non-accredited therefore is not registered with the National Training Register.
