Course overview

This competency is for operators who are required to wear breathing apparatus for part of their job - because they are working in a confined space, with hazardous gases/vapours, in an anoxic atmosphere or for other applications requiring the wearing of breathing apparatus. It teaches the skills to inspect, don, operate in, remove, clean and maintain breathing apparatus.

Selection criteria

Entry into this course is available to commercial/corporate clients only. Training is delivered either on-site or at a campus location, and delivery dates are negotiated with each client.

Please note: Participants must be clean shaven in order to attend the course. This due to a requirement for the respirator to seal against leakage.

Resources required
  • closed-in leather shoes
  • personal stationery (pen and paper)
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate for the training environment

If training is delivered in the workplace, the employer will be required to provide a suitable room for theory training to take place. Alternatively, training can be delivered at a TAFE Queensland campus.

Need to know

Participants must be clean shaven due to a requirement for the respirator to seal against leakage.
