Course overview

On completion of this course you will be familiar with the settings and controls of VR and AR equipment, have an understanding the difference between 3D Scan and Photogrammetry, operate 3D scanning equipment, export 3D scans as Point Cloud Data and 3D meshes to be used in VR and AR applications.

Successful completion of the course and related assessment may entitle you to one unit credited against a Bachelor of Information Technology with Southern Cross University (conditions apply).

TAFE Queensland is excited to offer our cutting-edge short course Reality Capture (3D Scanning) for VR and Create VR and AR Experiences.  This program comprises of multiple face-to-face three hour workshops covering topics from getting started with immersive technology and 3D scanning to collaborating in VR and AR. You can enrol in one or all ten.  Training will be delivered at our purpose-built Coomera Creative campus featuring state-of-the-art technology and equipment. Our Leica BLK360 Scanner, HTC Vive Pro 2 with Facial Tracker and Motion Trackers, HP Reverb G2 and Oculus Quest 2 Headsets, iPads Pro with LiDAR Scanners, 3D Printers and more mean you will be working with the most up-to date tech on the market.  

On completion of this course you will be familiar with the settings and controls of VR and AR equipment, have an understanding of the difference between 3D Scan and Photogrammetry, operate 3D scanning equipment, export 3D scans as Point Cloud Data, and 3D meshes to be used in VR and AR applications. The course will also give you an opportunity to use industry standard software such as Arkio and Unity together with its popular Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) plugins, to integrate 3D scans with other 3D models to create an interactive and collaborative VR experience.

Selection criteria

This non-accredited course is targeted towards people working in immersive technologies or any of the following industries, but not limited to:

Engineering, Drafting and Building Design, Interior Design, Digital Design, Health, Carpentry, Plumbing and Electrical and all other areas within the Creative Industries area.

Resources Required

All resources including VR headsets and 3D scanners will be provided.
