Course overview

According to recent data from the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER), only 94,765 females were engaged in training as an apprentice or trainee, representing only 27.7% of apprentices and trainees nationwide. With this low portion of female representation in trade-based apprenticeships, TAFE Queensland has developed a program to support women to explore and engage with non-traditional trades.

The program will assist you in identifying available career choices and build your personal capabilities to be successful in male-dominated trades. This program includes various trade experiences, leadership training and networking opportunities, and is tailored to those that identify as women aged 16 years and over looking for sustainable career pathways and employment in the  trades.

During this 10-day program you will be introduced to a range of exciting trade careers across a range of industries. You will also complete a Construction White Card as part of the program, in addition to learning about workshop safety and hand and power tool skills. This program will also include leadership and employability training to help increase your confidence and get you job-ready for a career in the trades.

Upon successful completion of this program you will have a good understanding of the trade career options available to you and will be well placed to seek further training or employment as an apprentice in your industry of interest.
