Course overview

Progress your career in cabinet making with this hands-on course. Complete this qualification to become a trade qualified cabinet maker with skills in the installation of furniture or kitchen and bathroom cabinets, including those installed on marine craft.

According to the Australian Government's Job Outlook service, cabinetmakers are currently a skill in demand with employers finding it hard to fill vacancies. There are likely to be around 6,000 job openings over the next five years with employers looking for qualified candidates who are hardworking, reliable, and work well in a team.

In this course you'll gain skills in making and repairing fine timber products using solid timber, flat panel or timber-based materials. You'll learn processes from design through to production including producing manual and computer-aided drawings, using power tools and wood machines, and undertaking jobs within cost and time constraints.

Industry consultation has identified there is an increasing desire from employers working in marine craft construction for graduates with skills in building and installing cabinetry in marine craft. This program includes specific units and work placement hours to develop these sought-after skills.

Successful completion of either the furniture or kitchen and bathroom pathway will qualify you as a cabinet maker so you can continue to progress your trade career.
