Course overview

No experience in bookmaking or bookbinding is required - just a playful spirit. Enjoy being in the company of others and learn new skills that can be used into the future.  This six-week short course will familiarise participants with the basic materials (paper, cloth, board, and adhesives) and techniques (folding, sewing, glueing, binding) used in assembling books. Construction techniques will include the easy pamphlet stitch, basic Japanese stab binding, piano-hinge skewer assemblage, novel button-hole binding, open-bound French link with kettle stitch, and open-bound single-needle Coptic stitch. Decorative methods of simple print, collage, and mixed media processes will make each book unique.
