Course overview

Charcoal casting is a wonderful way of creating jewellery. It allows makers to recycle old jewellery/off-cuts and create beautiful pieces featuring unique organic textures.

You will discover how to make moulds for casting using charcoal blocks, how to prepare old jewellery for melting and how to safely operate a blow torch to melt silver.

After you cast your very own 'one of a kind' silver ring, you will learn how to finish it using files, sandpaper and other finishing methods.

In addition, you will also take home the know-how for sizing and shaping a ring, using professional jewellery making tools.

You are welcome to bring along your own silver jewellery for recycling. These may be old silver earrings, rings and bangles. Jewellery that is heavily set in stones and chains are not recommended for this course. If you ar a maker with a pile of silver off-cuts, please feel free to bring them with you.
