Course overview
Create your own clothing, accessories, gifts, homewares, toys and much more! The possibilities are endless! Using yarn to create items that will last longer and be unique to your own creative style.
In today’s world of planned obsolescence, disposable items and fast fashion, it can be hard to find quality items that stand the test of time. The more we make at home, the less we needlessly throw away!
In this short course you will learn the basic stitches to get almost any project started, opening up an endless world of clothing, accessories, blankets, homewares and even toys!
TikTok has sent the popularity of making Amigurumi through the roof, this course will set you on the path to join in the fun!
A variety of Yarn and a darning needle will be supplied, so all you’ll need to bring is a crochet hook (ergonomic handle recommended) of your choice in size 4mm, a pair of scissors and a way to take notes! No previous experience necessary!
In this short course, you’ll be given one on one hands on assistance on learning the basics of how to crochet. Come along for 2 Three hour sessions, to learn in a relaxed environment with an experienced-in-crochet teacher!
You will learn how to:
- Hold your hook
- Hold the yarn
- Create a foundation chain
- A single crochet, a half double crochet and double crochet
- A Magic circle / Magic ring ( mainly used for Granny squares and Amigurumi projects)
- The difference between UK and US terminology
At the end of this short course you will be able to start your own projects at home! Students will be able to choose some supplied yarn to take home to get their yarn stash started (and make your facilitators stash smaller!)
Did you know:
- That Crochet has very low waste apart from a small amount of recyclable paper labels and some plastic packaging, as you can use any scraps as toy stuffing!
- You can also purchase yarn or even crochet/knit items from op shops and salvage the yarn by pulling the piece apart.
- You can also make a type of "yarn" by cutting up old t-shirts, generally the ones made out of jersey material, but can be done with a lot of different fabrics.
