The accounting services industry has grown over the past five years on the back of steady economic growth and increasing demand for industry-specific expertise. This course gives you fundamental knowledge and advanced skills to work within the always changing field of business and accounting. You will develop an advanced understanding of budget management and forecasting, financial reporting, income tax returns and provide management accounting advice. TAFE Queensland's industry-experienced teaching staff can provide you with real-world skills which can be readily transferred to the highly competitive sector of accounting and finance.

Successful completion of this course will also meet the minimum academic requirements with the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) for registration as a Business Activity Statement (BAS) agent. Completion also provides great articulation opportunities into higher education courses with a range of universities.

Selection criteria

Entry into the mainstream program is via direct entry and it is recommended that you have either:- 

  • successfully completed year 12 (or equivalent); or
  • Certificate IV in Accounting or Bookkeeping; or
  • are of Mature-aged entry with work experience in a related field.

Entry into the accelerated program is via an application process and it recommended that you have at least 5 years' experience working in the industry.

Resources required

You will be provided with a recommended reading list/required textbooks and additional resources. The purchase of these resources will incur additional costs

Need to know

This program has been superseded by FNS50217 Diploma of Accounting endorsed 13 February 2018. TAFE Queensland plans to commence this qualification during semester 2 of 2018. 

When studying online it is strongly recommended students follow the preferred order of study and enrol in no more than two units per intake, unless otherwise advised.
