Take your IT career to the next level with this advanced course. This qualification will give you the skills you need to provide responsive, high-level IT support as a network administrator.

According to the Australian Government's Job Outlook service, there is strong future job growth predicted for computer network professionals. This large occupation is expected to create around 17,000 job openings over the next five years. 

You will learn to produce information and communications technology (ICT) network architectural design, match ICT needs to the strategic direction of different companies, monitor and troubleshoot virtual computing environments, as well as design, build and test network servers. Our highly experienced team of industry leaders will give you the one-on-one guidance to succeed in your studies and beyond.

Successful completion of this course will qualify you to work as a network administrator. It will also give you the foundation skills needed to undertake further studies in your field.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Selection criteria

Domestic Students
It is highly recommended that students have previously completed:

  • ICT30115 - Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology (Network Administration Stream) or other relevant qualifications or units equivalent to the core units of ICT30115; or
  • demonstrated vocational experience in a range of work environments in senior network support roles, including administrator, operations analyst, technician, operations or support coordinator/technician.

International Students
The following Selection criteria requirements apply only to International Students:

  • English Language Proficiency: Academic IELTS 5.5 (no individual band less than 5.0) or ISLPR 3+ on all skills or other - View a list of all English Language tests accepted by TAFE Queensland International
  • Academic Requirements: Completion of Year 12 (or equivalent). Non school-leavers must have relevant work experience or qualification that indicates likely success of course completion. View more information on the international education achievement levels equivalent to Year 10 and 12

Prior IT and or networking experience or knowledge is not required but is an advantage.

Students should be a minimum of 18 years of age. Student visa applicants under the age of 18 will be accepted where they demonstrate that they will be accompanied by a parent, legal custodian or a suitable relative who is aged 21 or over. Resources required

It is recommended that you have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

You will be provided with a recommended reading list and/or required textbooks during orientation or at the start of each unit. The purchase of these resources may incur additional costs, or you may be able to borrow them from the TAFE Queensland library network.

You are also required to have access to and bring a USB or external hard drive (minimum 1TB), and personal stationary.

Replacement Program
This program has been replaced by ICT50418 - Diploma of Information Technology Networking, as of 29 January 2019. Please note: a 12 month transition period, from this date, applies to enable current students to complete their study. If required, enrolment will be transitioned into the replacement qualification.
