Course overview

Start your career in tourism with this entry-level course. This course will qualify you to work across a number of strong-growth industries such as tourism, business and events. You will have the skills to seek employment as a tour coordinator or tourism assistant.

This course will give you the skills you need to provide advice on domestic destinations, customer service, provide visitor information, prepare and delivery commentaries, financial transactions, workplace health & safety and cultural sensitivity. There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Selection criteria

It is a requirement of the course that prospective students have completed Year 12 of schooling and recommended that students  have received a sound result in English and Maths. It is also recommended that prospective students have sound digital literacy skills due to significant computer work required in the Travel Products & Bookings cluster.

Traineeship pathway
To study a traineeship program you must be indentured as a trainee with your employer.

Employers need to be able to provide necessary human and physical resources to qualify for a trainee.

Resources required

It is recommended that you have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader. This equipment and software is available for use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

A recommended reading list and/or required textbooks will be provided after enrolment, during orientation or at the start of each unit. The purchase of these resources may incur additional costs, or you may be able to borrow them from the TAFE Queensland library network.

You may also be required to purchase industry standard uniform items, including TAFE Queensland branded items. These details will be provided after enrolment or during orientation. The purchase of these uniform items may incur additional costs of approximately $100.00.

Delivery includes one zoom session per week you will need to have access to strong internet and a personal computer that has a camera and a microphone.

Important information

This course does not cover reservations that are required for a Travel Agent or Airline job outcome.  You would be required to enrol in the Certificate III in Travel to gain the skills required for these job outcomes.

On completion of the Travel Operations cluster using Travelports CrossCheck travel software you will also receive your industry certificate for CrossCheck travel.
