Course overview

Set yourself on the path to a rewarding career in the animal care industry with this entry-level course. This qualification will give you the basic knowledge and skills required to work as a kennel or cattery attendant, assistant dog trainer, pet exerciser or assistant grooming attendant.

Australians treat their pets as members of the family, which has led to longer lifespans and an increasing demand for animal grooming, training, boarding, walking, and minding services. The trend is showing no signs of slowing down, with Australians spending an estimated $8 billion per year on products and services for their pets.

This course will teach you how to work effectively in the companion animal industry and provide basic care to dogs and birds. You will gain practical experience pampering and grooming animals in real-life environments. You'll learn how to plan nutritional requirements for animals, and maintain and monitor animal health and wellbeing.

Successful completion of this course will allow you to seek work as a dog minder, or aquarium or cattery attendant.
