Learn how to light up the night sky and enter the exciting world of pyrotechnics with this introductory skill set. This course is for people who are responsible for creating, planning and implementing outdoor fireworks displays.

This course will teach you the correct handling and safety procedures when setting up, operating, and dismantling fireworks. You will develop the abilities to assess site suitability and complete hazard and risk identification to ensure the safety of the general public. You will also learn how to plan outdoor fireworks displays based on client briefs.

Successful completion of this course will give you the entry-level skills you need to successfully create, plan and implement outdoor fireworks displays.

Selection criteria

  • Entry into this skill set is via teacher referral. Please contact us to speak with a teacher. 
  • There are no formal entry requirements for this course but it is highly desirable that you have previous experience in the industry. 
  • Students entering this course must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Fireworks Contractor must be a minimum of 21 years of age.

Resources required

 You are responsible for meeting the minimum occupational health and safety requirements in practical classes. This includes the use of safety glasses, protective clothing including long sleeved shirts, trousers and closed in footwear. If you fail to meet these minimum standards of dress, you will not be permitted entry into practical classes.

Assessment Methods

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
