Complete further learning and elevate your graphic design skills with this advanced course. This qualification will give you the specialised technical, creative, and conceptual skills required to provide complex design solutions.

Demand for qualified designers is growing with a tendency for advertising firms to outsource visual design work. Increased use of online advertising and mobile applications are contributing to steady growth in the specialised design services industry, with revenue forecast to reach $4.6 billion by 2022.

This course covers the advanced skills required to establish, negotiate and refine design briefs. You'll learn to use industry standard software including Content Management Systems and the Adobe Creative Suite to prepare creative work for both print and digital formats. In your final semester you will study in a simulated design studio environment to prepare you for life in this industry.

Successful completion of this course will qualify you to work as a graphic designer in a variety of commercial contexts across both print and digital media.

Entry requirements

If you have completed CUA50715 Diploma of Graphic Design, you may use your work as an alternative to the below entry requirements.

Presentation of 'own professional practice''
Recorded presentation MP4 or via Skype meeting - 5 to 10 minutes documenting the following four specific requirements (providing documented applications).

You will:

  1. Present a 2D and 3D product, discussing applications used.
  2. Present an example showing your technical ability to create and manipulate graphics, discussing the relationships of graphic objects and elements of design.
  3. Present two examples of multi-page documents, discussing the use of paragraphy, character styles and hieratchy.
  4. Respond to a pre-defined question that will enable you to explain how history has influenced your own professional practice.

Selection criteria

This Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design is for students who have successfully completed the Diploma of Graphic Design, as only 7 units out of the 15 units are offered.

Assessment Methods

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
