Develop the advanced skills and specialised knowledge to work across a diverse range of business functions. This qualification will provide you with the contemporary, industry-relevant marketing and business skills you need to forge a successful career.

According to the Australian Government's Job Outlook service, demand for advertising and marketing professionals grew very strongly over the past five years and is expected to continue to grow in the future. This very large occupation is likely to create around 53,000 job openings over the next five years. 

This course will equip you with specialised knowledge in customer research, web design, and digital marketing and communications. You'll gain practical experience developing promotional programs and business and marketing plans. In addition, you will learn how to pitch advertising concepts, identify and exploit market opportunities, and understand consumer behaviour. You will also develop specialised knowledge in project work and workforce planning management.

Successful completion of this course will open up employment opportunities within a range of different industries in roles such as promotions, market research, marketing coordination, and business management.

The successful achievement of these qualifications requires you to complete all core units from the Diploma of Marketing and Communication / the Diploma of Business, together with 7 elective units from the list below. Entry requirements

The entry requirements for BSB52415 Diploma of Marketing and Communications are the 5 units listed below which also comprise the BSBSS00077 Marketing and Communication Foundations Skill Set. 

  • BSBCMM401 Make a presentation 
  • BSBCRT401 Articulate, present and debate ideas 
  • BSBMKG419 - Analyse consumer behaviour 
  • BSBWRT401 - Write complex documents 
  • BSBMKG418 Develop and apply knowledge of marketing communication industry  

Students are not required to have completed these units prior to enrolment as they have been incorporated into the delivery model and will be delivered concurrently with the diploma level units.  

Selection criteria

Further to the above Entry Requirements it is highly recommended that you have completed previous study in business related areas or have relevant work/life experience.

Resources required

It is recommended that you have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

It is also recommended that you have access to a smart phone and will require basic stationery and USBs for class.

Need to know

Replacement Qualifications
These qualifications have been replaced by BSB50120 - Diploma of Business and BSB50620 - Diploma of Marketing and Communication, as of 18 October 2020. Please note: TAFE Queensland has been given approval to extend the transition period until 19 April 2022, to enable current students to complete their study. If required, current enrolment will be transitioned into the replacement qualification.
