Course overview

Did you learn Japanese in school? Can you write Hiragana and are able to speak Japanese a little bit? Now it’s time to learn KANJI!

As you know the Japanese writing system consists of Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji. The first two use phonetic syllables however Kanji is very unique, originally from China, and did you know it fundamentally began as a picture?!

There are very fascinating characters in the world, imagine if you knew a little Kanji, surely your holiday will be much more convenient and interesting!

Students often ask to be taught how to read and understand the basic Kanji to help them with daily life in Japan.

In this course Junko will teach you the basic Kanji you will need to enjoy your holiday as an independent tourist - from sightseeing buildings, understanding stations, transportation and reading menus in the restaurants of the country towns or villages.

In the third lesson, Junko will show you “Shodo-Japanese Calligraphy”. You will write Kanji with a brush and black ink to create your masterpiece.

If you’d like to learn a summary of Japanese, we recommend our ‘Travelling to Japan' short course.

If you’d like to learn conversation we recommend you enrol in our Japanese Conversation Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3 courses.

This short course is non-accredited therefore is not registered with the National Training Register.
