This course provides the training that is critical to become successful in installation and servicing of a wide range of AV equipment and facilities in commercial and residential environments.  It covers how to match equipment for the right job, how to terminate/connect a range of AV connectors and equipment.

Selection criteria

Prior to study in this pathway, participants must either:

  • Complete the five electrical knowledge units available in the Course in Foundation Electrical Units Pre-requisites
  • Or Apply to the SkillsTech Recognition Prior Learning Unit for RPL in the five electrical knowledge units
  • Or Be granted exemption which is automatically granted to Electricians, Electrical or Electronics Engineers

Resources required

Students are responsible for meeting the minimum occupational health and safety requirements in practical classes, which include:

  • safety glasses - students must wear these at all times in the workshop or any eye hazard area as specified by the teacher
  • protective footwear - covered uppers, steel capped toes and non-slip shoes to AS2210
  • hair protection - long hair (i.e. hair below collar length) must be restrained (hat, headband, or hair tie)
  • industrial type clothing (100% cotton drill).

Students failing to meet these minimum standards of dress will not be permitted entry in to practical classes. Students must also be equipped with a pen and notepad for theory training in the classroom.
