Course overview

This key production course will give you the skills to produce keys from sample and codes using hand tools and key machines.  It can also increase your chances of gaining work in the Locksmithing industry including key cutting and hardware stores/sales.

The successful achievement of this course requires you to complete all units listed. These units form part of MEM20105 - Certificate II in Engineering.

Selection criteria

Students must have a clear Criminal History, and a sound achievement in Year 10 English and Maths or equivalent is recommended.

Resources required

Personal protective equipment:

  • industrial footwear to AS2210 – safety boots (steel capped)
  • clear safety glasses (practical)
  • long sleeve work shirts and long pants (100% cotton drill work wear)

Students failing to meet these minimum standards of dress will not be permitted entry in to practical classes.

Assessment Methods

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
