Course overview

Course overview

This is an introduction to the fundamentals of the Internet of Things - IoT systems, or cyber physical systems.  The Internet of Things (IoT) is everywhere and growing, it connects all the things in the world to a global cyber realm.  Gain a high level understanding of the various layers, the skills employed, and the various concepts that are needed to master; home automation, automation & control, STEM, smart cities, autonomous vehicles, robotics, agriculture tech, wearable tech, fashion tech, environmental modelling and so much more.

The fundamental concepts of connecting the physical world to cyberspace are the same for connecting either plants or drones to the Internet.  Take the first steps to building cyber physical systems, and producing the new wave of products and solutions.  Learn the lingo, get the assistance, and see the path to mastering the skills of the future  .This course will familiarise you with the technical jargon and concepts to make the most of related workshops

This course is a two part series that introduces participants to the concepts required to master the field of cyber physical systems.

Part 1 introduces the high level systems overview, covering the various system layers and components.  The purpose of this unit is to ensure a broad understanding of what the Internet of Things is, and to become familiar with the terminology.

Part 2 explores the Internet of Things architecture looking in more detail of the functions and standards used in the system components.  We will look at the protocols and services, and discover where they are used in these new systems.  This course forms part of a series of new and exciting classes and practical laboratories.  We highly recommend taking this course to master new and emerging technologies.

'IOT Series' suggested pattern: Fundamentals 1 - Concepts  > Tinker Lab 1 (Raspberry Pi) >  Fundamentals 2 - Components > Intro to Coding > Tinker Lab 2 (Pi and Puck) > Controller Basics > Tinker Lab 3 (Node-Red Pi) > Basic electronics > Tinker Lab 4 (Arduino) > Intro to Javascript > Tinker Lab 5 (Firebase) > Cloud Platforms  > Tinker Labs 6 (Cloud Functions) > Coding Node.js > Tinker Lab 7 (End-to-end IoT)
