Course overview

This photography course will ensure you're ready and able to undertake the next stage of your learning. You'll cover lighting, studio and location work, as well as working to client briefs. On successful completion you'll have gained invaluable fundamental photo imaging knowledge and direct entry into the Diploma of Photography and Photo Imaging.

Selection criteria

While there are no formal entry requirements for this course, it is recommended that you have sound literacy and numeracy skills.

Resources required

  • Digital SLR Camera which is at an industry level entry standard. Most students purchase Canon or Nikon Cameras. These cameras are usually sold new with a twin lens set covering wide angle to modest telephoto lens for around $1200-$2500.
    • all cameras intended for study must be able to be operated manually for shutter speed, aperture and focus
  • personal stationery (pens and paper)
  • closed-in shoes
  • a valid email address

You will also require access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online systems, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at a number of TAFE Queensland locations.

Assessment Methods

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
