This program has been specifically developed to provide you with the skills, knowledge and techniques to weld to the standards required by industry as specified in AS1796:2001 Certification of welders and welding supervisors.

Selection criteria

You need to be a qualified tradesperson as well as meet experience guidelines as per AS1796. You will need to have completed the required pre-requisites relevant to each welding ticket.

It is also recommended that you have completed year 10, or be 15 years of age or above, and have sound literacy and numeracy skills.

Resources required

  • steel capped boots
  • protective clothing: long sleeved shirts and trousers
  • safety glasses
  • welding equipment specific to the unit being studied
  • personal stationery (pens and paper)

Assessment Methods

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
