This course will see successful graduates emerge as Lairage Supervisors, Tutors, Leading Hands or Labourers.

Units

The successful achievement of this qualification requires you to complete a 19 units in total, including 6 core units and 13 elective units.

You must select a minimum of 5 units from Group A and a minimum of 6 unit from Group B. A further 2 units may be selected from Group B or C.

Selection criteria

This program is designed for business clients. TAFE Queensland offers customised learning programs based on the needs of the individual organisation. Prospective students will need to be currently employed in the industry and should be 15 years of age or above.

Students will need to take into consideration the substantial amount of on-the-job training required in this qualification, as well as the risks associated with work in an abattoir, including Q-fever and other zoonotic diseases, the use of knives, the demanding physical nature of some positions, proximity to machinery and the use of automatic machinery.

Resources required

Students will require access to the relevant equipment in the workplace as well as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) relevant to and as stated by the workplace.

Assessment Methods

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
