This course is the second in a series of hands on practical workshops to develop valuable skills relating to the Internet of Things (IoT).  Tinker Labs introduce new tools and skills that are used by those in; STEM, Makers, DIY’s, Engineers, Designers, Startups, Inventors, and Creators in General.

Applying for a course does not guarantee you a place in that course. Your place is only guaranteed once you enrol into units. Enrolling means that you are committing yourself to study, and to paying the associated fees. The tuition fees and applicable charges are required to be paid at enrolment or by scheduled instalment dates either by yourself, a nominated third party (e.g. your employer), or as identified within a contract for delivery of TAFE Queensland training.

Selection criteria

An understanding of information systems is beneficial.  An ability to use computers and Internet browsers essential.

An understanding of the basic concepts of coding.  Participants should be comfortable with learning technical jargon.

Participants ideally should have completed the following workshops:

  • Fundamentals of IoT (Part 1 and Part 2)
  • Tinker Labs 1 - Introduction to the Pi
  • Introduction to Coding, or have some understanding of coding.

Resources required

Participants need to purchase and bring:
"1 x Puck.js" BLE development board. These are available from:

Participants will also need to bring the “Tinker Labs Pi Kit” with setup from Tinker Labs 1 - Intro to the Pi":

  • 1x - Raspberry Pi 3 model B or B+
  • 1x - 2.5A micro USB power supply or greater.
  • 1x - HDMI cable.
  • 1x SD card with tool set from Tinker Labs 1*

Please note: Your Pi should already be loaded with the tools found in Tinker Labs 1.  Please contact TAFE if you were unable to attend but have current working knowledge of the Pi.

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
