If you are a farmer and would like to take your business to the next level, this is the right program for you! This program will give you the confidence to set your own goals, analyse your business strengths, weakness, and opportunities.  You will be inspired to produce short and long terms goals, identifying risks and implementing your own business plans. 

The Farm Business Management Skill Set (AHCSS00030) is an accredited program suited for Queensland farmers and farm business managers with responsibility for farm business planning and management. The program includes the completion of the following four agribusiness units.  On successful completion of the skill set participants will be able to:

  • Determine the scope of a business plan, prepare a business plan, document and review a business plan
  • Identify performance requirements, evaluate enterprise performance, Review business performance
  • Identify and establish an appropriate rural business structure, Identify and establish the roles and responsibilities within the business unit, Access rural networks and support groups
  • Establish risk context, Identify risk, Analyse risk, Select and implement treatments

Selection criteria

Direct entry, year 10 or equivalent.

If you're under 17 years of age, special enrolment conditions may apply.

Resources required

No specific resources are required to successfully complete this course.

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Need to know

The Queensland Government provides a generous subsidy for the AHCSS00030 Farm Business Management Skill Set under its Higher Level Skills program.

Higher Level Skills subsidised funding:  To access Higher Level Skills funding for this course, the prospective student must provide evidence that they are an owner of, manager of or worker on a farm in Queensland and may already hold a Certificate IV or higher level qualification.  If you are unable to access the subsidised funding, the Full Fee price will be payable and payment can be made upfront or through a payment plan

To be eligible to receive the subsidy you must:

  • be an owner, manager or worker of a farm in Queensland and
  • be aged 15 years or over and no longer at school
  • permanently reside in Queensland
  • be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or New Zealand citizen

Assessment Methods

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
