This course will provide you with a basic understanding of physics in order to move into tertiary level studies in the area.
Statement of completion
This course will provide you with the background knowledge required to pursue the study of matter and its motion through space and time. A basic understanding of physics is needed for those who wish to move into engineering, high military applications, and fields in space studies.
The course concentrates on the concepts and models which physics uses to enhance our understanding of the real world, and the techniques for presenting and analysing data from experimental observations. You'll be introduced to concepts including physical quantities and measurement, thermal physics, forces and motion, optics, energy and momentum, wave motion, electricity and magnetism, electric circuits, and atomic and nuclear physics.
Successful completion of this course will give you the confidence to apply the basic laws of physics to problem solving situations and is equivalent to Year 11/12 Physics. The Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) has recognised this course as eligible to contribute 4 credits to a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) on successful completion.
During this course you'll receive individual tutorial support from an experienced high school physics teacher via email, phone, and online classrooms and discussion forums.
Unilearn can help you complete prerequisite subjects to meet your university entrance requirements. Unilearn offers a range of online courses that can set you on the pathway to reaching your study goals. The best part is you can study at your own pace and enrol and get started at any time.
If you want to go on to further study at university, TAFE Queensland has a pathway option to get you there. In many cases, completing one of our diplomas may give you a full year of credit towards a degree with one of our partner universities.Learn more about university pathways
No matter what your circumstances, TAFE Queensland has a payment option to suit you. If you are unsure of what's right for you, get in touch. We're here to help.
This is the total amount you need to pay when you enrol. This may be the full fee for the course, or the student contribution amount if you are eligible for a subsidy or concession.
If you have difficulty paying for the full cost of a course upfront, you may be eligible for a payment plan.
Solid advanced math is needed for this subject and we recommend completion of our senior mathematics course prior to studying physics.
Unilearn has assumed that by enrolling into an online unit you are familiar with computers and are able to use programs such as Word, Excel and Adobe Reader as well as complete simple tasks such as the Save-As function, attaching a file, saving a low resolution image and inserting images and working with tables within Word documents.
Purchasing the Physics textbook is not required as there is an alternative, online version available in the online classroom. However, many students benefit from having the hardcopy. This can be purchased via the QLD Textbook Warehouse (http://www.qtw.com.au). Type “UNL71PHYS” in the search field at the top of their website homepage.
Completing our individual courses will not achieve or improve a QTAC rank or OP.
The Exam for each unit is not included in the cost of the unit (payable once all coursework has been completed). See below
$75 for students sitting their online exam within Australia
$125 for students sitting a paper-based exam within Australia
$150 for students sitting their online exam outside of Australia
$200 for students sitting their paper-based exam outside of Australia
Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning. Read more about assessment methods.
All information was accurate at time of publication, however TAFE policies, tuition fees and course content is subject to change without notice. Course commencement is dependent on sufficient enrolment numbers. Timetable information is subject to change prior to commencement and/or during the duration of your course.
Fast track your way to a formal qualification by earning credit for the things you already know. Getting recognition for the skills you've gained from the workplace or previous learning means less study time for you, and getting the paper to prove you're qualified a whole lot sooner. We can assess your skills, directly apply credits from previous successful study, and give you advanced standing in your course.
