Course overview

Take control of your career in justice and law enforcement with this dual qualification. This course will provide you with a broad understanding of the justice sector and allow you to seek work in Australia Border Force, Corrective Services, local government departments, or the Police Service.

You will develop an understanding of justice-related areas including legislation and legal frameworks, social justice, and crime and corrections. You'll also gain practical skills including preparing documentation for court proceedings, conducting interviews, planning investigations, applying regulatory powers, preparing briefs of evidence, and providing justice-related advice to clients. This course has been designed in conjunction with the Queensland Police Service, the Department of Justice and Attorney General, the Australian Federal Police, and the Office of Industrial Relations.

Successfully completing this course will allow you to work in a multitude of crime, justice and legal related roles as a police officer, corrective services officer, customs officer, or regulatory investigator. You will also develop a solid foundation for further study in this area.

Selection criteria

It is highly recommended that you have successfully completed one of the following, as it provides the essential skills that form the basis of study for this qualification:-

  • successful completion of Certificate III or above;
  • completion of Year 10 or equivalent with sound achievement in English; or
  • relevant work life experience in the business and/or justice fields.

Assessment Methods

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
