This course is designed for students without workplace access to gain fundamental knowledge about the water treatment industry. The course will enable students to develop basic understanding of general Drinking Water and Wastewater treatment processes used in municipal and industrial treatment plants.
Statement of Participation
This course is suitable for candidates, who are looking to start their career in the water industry as a treatment plant operator, or working in a relevant field in the water industry (e.g. plumbers, fitters, electricians) and seeking a career change. It is also appropriate for other water professions (e.g. water policy making, water infrastructure planning etc...) who would like to gain some more insight and practical knowledge of the water treatment industry.
Many water treatment utility companies prefer to employ qualified water industry operators. However, to complete the full qualification, trainees must be able to access unit operation within the treatment plant for competency assessment. This TAFE Queensland non-accredited course is designed to address this significant bottleneck for someone who would like to enter the water treatment industry without any prior formal qualification.
The knowledge developed from this non-accredited course provides a career start for students to work in a Drinking Water / Wastewater treatment plant at an entry level position under direct supervision. Students who complete this course and later gain experience to work independently in a water treatment plant, may be able to complete their accredited water qualification via a skills recognition process (RPL) with TAFE Queensland.
