This is the second course in our new series of Mandarin Chinese short courses. This post-beginner Level 2 Mandarin Chinese HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) Standard Course continues when you complete your Level 1 study, or have achieved the basic knowledge about Chinese Mandarin.

The aim of this systematic training program for non-native Chinese speakers is to help you achieve comprehensive skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing in Chinese Mandarin, so as to facilitate your study, work or business in relation with China.

In the HSK Level 2 standard course, you will learn approximately 250 new words, as well as essential phrases and expressions in communication.

Topics in this 10-week course:

  • food and drink
  • time expressions in Chinese
  • study and work
  • transport and places
  • basic grammar
  • Cultural reference:

             - Chinese table manners
             - Chinese tea culture
             - Chinese New Year

Learning outcomes - You will be able to:

  • ask and give directions
  • take public transport
  • have transactional conversations relevant to shopping
  • describe people or things such as colours, shapes, age, and sizes etc.

Once you complete this course, it is recommended that you continue your studies and enrol in the Level 3 course. You can also apply for the HSK Proficiency Level 2 test.

Resources required

  • Students should bring along their HSK Standard Course 1 textbook and workbook they received in our Level 1 course. If you don’t have these, you can purchase them in addition to your enrolment for a fee of $80.00. Your books will then be delivered to your first lesson for the teacher to give to you.
  • Please bring a pen and paper for note taking.

Assessment Methods

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
