Course overview

Elevate your career in government, justice and law enforcement with this dual qualification. This high-level course will provide you with a greater understanding of the skills and knowledge required to work  as a police officer or within the government justice sector.

According to the Australian Government's Job Outlook Service growth in the police force and other areas of the justice sector is strong, with more than 9000 openings for policing jobs expected in the next five years. 

You will develop the skills needed to gather information and conduct an investigation while upholding the values of the public service. You will also gain skills to apply regulatory powers, prepare briefs of evidence and apply the principles of evidence law. Relevant components of this course have been designed in conjunction with the Queensland Police Service, the Department of Justice and Attorney General, the Australian Federal Police, and the Office of Industrial Relations.

Successful completion of this course will open up employment opportunities within correctional, police, customs, court services, compliance and justice related areas.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Selection criteria

It is highly recommended that you have successfully completed one of the following, as it provides the essential skills that form the basis of study in this qualification:

  • successful completion of Certificate III or above; 
  • completion of Year 10 or equivalent with sound achievement in English; or
  • relevant work life experience in the business and/or justice fields.

Resources required

All learning resources are provided by TAFE Queensland, no additional textbooks are required.

Need to know

Commencing Semester 1, 2021, students who have completed 10283NAT Certificate IV in Crime and Justice Studies, can continue to PSP40416 Certificate IV in Government Investigations (regulatory compliance) / 10284NAT Diploma of Crime and Justice Studies (12 month program) and can receive up to 7 units of credit.

You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
