Course overview

Broaden your skills in community services with this short course. This skill set has been designed for existing community services workers wanting to provide services and support to families and children with complex needs.

This short course will equip you with the skills to plan services and provide support for families and children impacted by autism spectrum disorder. You'll learn how to monitor individuals, respond to behaviours of concern, deal with conflict, and support behaviour management. You'll also learn valuable skills in evaluating and enhancing your own professional practice through a process of reflection and ongoing professional development.

Successful completion of this course will allow you to expand on your existing skill set and support families and children with autism spectrum disorder and other complex needs.

Selection criteria

This skill set has been endorsed by industry, and is suitable and highly recommended if you:-

  • hold a qualification at Certificate III level or higher related to working with families and children; or
  • have skills and knowledge equivalent to the qualification requirement validated through a recognition of prior learning process.

Assessment Methods

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
