COVID-19
Health advice to our students and the community.
Last updated: 27 April 2022
Safety and wellbeing
Safety and wellbeing is TAFE Queensland’s top priority and we will continue to follow the advice provided by Queensland Health, who is leading the State Government’s response to COVID-19.
Please make sure you stay up-to-date with reliable sources, such as:
Queensland Government novel coronavirus (COVID-19)

Students
If there are changes to the way your course will be delivered a TAFE Queensland representative will be in contact with you. Students will not be disadvantaged if you are impacted by COVID-19.
TAFE at School
To align with the Queensland Governments decision to delay the start of the 2022 school year in Queensland, TAFE Queensland will also start Semester One TAFE at School program delivery from Monday 7 February 2022.
If there are changes to the way your course will be delivered over the next few weeks your local TAFE at School Team will be in contact with you, and your school, closer to your scheduled start date.
Employers
If there are any changes to our training delivery that will impact your apprentice or trainee, a TAFE Queensland representative will be in contact with you. Conversely, please contact TAFE Queensland immediately if your apprentice or trainee is unable to attend their training as planned.
Protect yourself and others
- Get tested and stay home when sick – if unwell, even with only very mild symptoms, it’s extremely important to get tested and stay at home until you get the results
- Use the Check in Qld app on arrival at TAFE Queensland, and at each building as you move around campuses
- Keep your distance from each other
- Practise good hand hygiene.
Requirements for confirmed cases and close contacts
Under the new arrangements as at 28 April 2022, Close contacts who have symptoms of COVID-19 will continue to be required to test and to isolate until these symptoms resolve, even if they return a negative RAT result.
All close contacts will need to wear masks outside their home for seven days and will need to have a negative COVID-19 test result every second day since becoming a close contact.
You are a close contact if you have been with a person that has tested positive for COVID-19 for more than four hours in a house or other accommodation, a care facility or similar (this does not include the workplace).
Keeping our campuses COVID safe
Campuses are undergoing daily deep cleans of high-touch surfaces, we’re conducting regular touch-point cleaning on flat surfaces, and we’ve provided sanitation products for students to clean equipment before and after use. So next time you see our facilities or cleaning staff, say thanks for keeping us COVID safe.

Check-in FAQs
If you are having trouble with check-in using your phone's camera, you can enter the 6-digit code located on the QR code poster.
Under the current Queensland Health COVID-19 directive, some of our facilities, for example the auditoriums in our Brisbane campuses, are required to have allocated seating. Please follow the venue instructions at all locations for seating.
While you are required to check-in for contact tracing purposes, you don’t need to do this using the app. For students and employees who don’t have a smartphone or aren’t comfortable downloading apps, we can take your details using another method. Please speak with your teacher or a staff member at your location, or ask a friend to add you to their check-in.
One of our employees or an employee of an on-campus service may ask to see confirmation of your check-in. If asked, you are required to show evidence of check-in. If you used the app, simply present your check-in confirmation screen. If you didn’t use the app, you should present a copy of the manual check-in confirmation or from your friend’s.
Further detail of the businesses and activities that are now required to use the Check In Qld app is included in Queensland Health’s Restrictions on Business, Activities and Undertakings Direction.
Recording your check-in information when you attend a TAFE Queensland campus, or access a unique on-campus facility or service is the most important information to enable the Queensland Government’s contact tracers to focus on their investigation. Recording a check-out time is not a requirement.
For more information about the app, how to download the app on iOS or Android devices, and it’s functionality please visit the Queensland Government website.
Complaints and feedback about the Check In Qld app can be submitted online at www.complaints.services.qld.gov.au or by calling 134 COVID (13 42 68).

Close contact exposure
Under the new arrangements, from 28 April 2022 close contacts who have symptoms of COVID-19 will continue to be required to test and to isolate until these symptoms resolve, even if they return a negative RAT result.
