Qualified and confident - Jacqueline cleans up with TAFE Queensland
TAFE Queensland has proudly partnered with the Department of Education (DoE) to provide the Certificate III in Cleaning Operations (CPP30316) to recognise the skills and knowledge of school cleaners.
Under the guidance from TAFE Queensland teachers, students learn all the skills required to be successful commercial cleaners, setting them up with a full qualification.
One such school cleaner who recently graduated was Jacqueline Ndjibu, who works at Kruger State School in South East Queensland. She enjoyed the course so much she recommends more people from her industry should study it.
“I asked my business manager if I could study the course to improve my skills and they agreed, so I began my studies at TAFE Queensland’s Ipswich campus,” says Jacqueline.
The course acknowledges the training staff have already received internally, with the workshops providing additional knowledge on the latest industry practices for storing equipment and chemicals, infection control, and first aid training. During the course Jaqueline also learnt how to liaise with school staff, students and members of the public while developing her specialised cleaning skills and operational knowledge.
“I found the course very interesting and I learnt something helpful to my job every day — particularly how to deal with clients.”
“I am so proud to have graduated and I’m confident and prepared to do my job and I’m proud to have a qualification,” continued Jacqueline.
After successfully completing the course, Jacqueline has found a new level of pride in having her skills formally recognised with a qualification and is hopeful it will translate into career progression.
“Everyone should study because it’s great to be qualified. It will help bring you opportunities that will lead to a promotion in the future,” concluded Jacqueline.
School cleaners who have completed the course indicated 99.2% student satisfaction in the December 2020 TAFE Queensland student satisfaction survey.
As of February 2021, over 600 students have completed the course since the partnership began in January 2020, with the potential for up to 5,000 cleaners to graduate over the course of the program.
