TAFE Queensland's East Coast region is celebrating after their Diploma of Event Management course was crowned the national winner in the Best Education and Training Program category of the Australian Event Awards for 2017. The awards are considered the most prestigious accomplishment among event industry leaders and organisers.
The win was announced at the awards ceremony on Wednesday, 13 September at The Events Centre in Caloundra, with the program selected as a standout by a judging panel of independent industry experts.
Course coordinator Karina Hogan credits the course’s immersive, hands-on approach for the win.
“The Sunshine Coast hosted so many world events last year, so getting to be involved and having that experience was unprecedented for our students,” said Karina.
“They had the opportunity to work with industry professionals on a world stage and experience working within those teams.”
TAFE Queensland’s application was supported by an impressive list of industry insiders who had worked with the program’s students during some of the Sunshine Coast’s biggest and most illustrious events.
From the Australasian Police and Emergency Services Games to the IRONMAN 70.3 Championships, all parties involved boasted of the success that the student involvement had brought to their event, and of the benefits TAFE Queensland’s courses bring to the event industry.
“Last year was such a great stepping stone for our students, with this course's practical, hands-on approach,” said Karina.
“We are so proud to have won this award. We will endeavour to continue providing our students the best opportunities possible through their training, well into the future.”
