When Chemark Rehder started a Certificate III in Hospitality (SIT30616) in 2018, he had no idea how far it would take him in just two short years.
“Considering all that I have achieved in such a short time. I am glad I chose TAFE Queensland as my first choice when it came to continuing my education," said Chemark.
After receiving his certificate qualification, went on to complete a Diploma of Hospitality Management (SIT50416) in June 2019.
Advancing to higher levels, the diploma level course covers managerial skills including rostering, budgeting, marketing and people management. It also allows students to learn valuable customer service skills in TAFE Queensland's training restaurants as well as how to operate a bar and prepare espresso coffee. The open-to-the-public training restaurants give students the ability to practice in a live service environment.
Thanks to real-world skills and the experience he gained during his time at TAFE Queensland, Chemark has now gained employment with the Ipswich Civic Centre.
“The teachers at TAFE Queensland are great. They have a relationship with the Ipswich Civic Centre where students undertake work experience. If you work hard and impress the manager then there is the potential to obtain paid work,” said Chemark.
