TAFE Queensland is proudly extending its Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence - Aeroplane) (AVI50219) training to Archerfield Airport, giving aspiring pilots more time learning to fly in an air traffic controlled environment.

Delivered under the expert guidance of TAFE Queensland’s partner instructors from Airwork Aviation, students will learn to navigate the skies above Brisbane with other air traffic while communicating with control towers as they complete their diploma studies.

TAFE Queensland’s General Manager Brisbane, Dr Paul Wilson, says the addition of training from Archerfield Airport will enable students to join the aviation industry in a very strong position.

“TAFE Queensland is proud to extend the practical flying component of its Diploma of Aviation to include Archerfield Airport and give more Brisbane based students access to world-class flight training,” says Dr Wilson.

“Undertaking practical flight training at a busy tower controlled airport will allow students to put all the components of their qualification into practice, setting them up for fulfilling careers as pilots,” he said.

Airwork Aviation General Manager, Paul Bredereck, says “Airwork Aviation is one of Australia’s most experienced flying schools with over 30 years training both aeroplane and helicopter pilots. We are very proud to extend our training services to include Archerfield Airport and help TAFE Queensland launch more flying careers.

“We’ve been TAFE Queensland’s aviation partner for over six years, and by bringing the practical components of the qualification to Archerfield we can enable more students to take their careers to new heights.

“We already train both helicopter and fixed-wing pilots from our Caboolture facility, and we’re thrilled to include another location to offer more high quality training to the pilots of tomorrow and help secure the future of Australia’s aviation industry,” he said.

“This project would not have been possible without the tremendous support of Archerfield Airport Corporation who has recognised the opportunity this new facility brings to the airport,” said Mr Bredereck.

During the Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence - Aeroplane) (AVI50219), students learn how to perform normal and emergency flying skills as well as preparing them for a career as a professional commercial pilot.

The diploma is a full time, 38-week course where students complete their training with TAFE Queensland in partnership with Airwork Aviation.

Students undertaking the diploma study in a hands-on environment, where students must complete 12 weeks dedicated to theory and 150 hours of practical flying, earning students their commercial pilot licence.

Successful completion of the course gives graduates the knowledge and practical skills needed for a successful career as a commercial aeroplane pilot in broad range of aviation pathways including air charter, aerial application, tourism, regional airlines, aeromedical, search and rescue, air freight, aerial survey and even defence.
