TAFE Queensland has begun taking applications for the Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence – Helicopter) (AVI50319) this week, with Helitec set to start delivering the course to students on the Sunshine Coast from Monday 6 July 2020.
TAFE Queensland General Manager for the East Coast region, Ana Rodger said she looked forward to working alongside Helitec to offer the course on the Sunshine Coast for the first time.
“At TAFE Queensland we’re all about teaching our students practical, hands-on skills that see them graduate confident, capable and job-ready — and Helitec offers over 25-years of experience and an exemplary safety record,” Ms Rodger said.
“With the redevelopment of the Sunshine Coast Airport, aviation is an industry that is expected to take off in the region, and this partnership will position the Sunshine Coast as a destination for aspiring helicopter pilots to embark on their career.”
Helitec Chief Executive Officer, Phil Aldridge said he's looking forward to sharing his expertise and helping launch careers.
“Quality training is incredibly important for a helicopter pilot and through this partnership, students will not only gain skills and their commercial pilot’s licence, they’ll also gain a nationally accredited qualification they can use to kick start their career,” Mr Aldridge said.
“Working as a commercial helicopter pilot is such a rewarding career. You get to provide passengers with an often once-in-a-lifetime experience, and your ‘office’ changes every day."
“Our base is located at the Sunshine Coast Airport too, which provides a valuable flying experience for students. They're able to learn at a controlled airport while having a number of uncontrolled airports nearby that allow them to expand their skills.”
