With her caring nature and as a personal support worker, Renee wanted to take her career to the next level.

Following her passion for caring for others Renee wanted to further her career in the aged care and disability industry. To progress her career to the next level, Renee felt the time was right to enrol in a Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing, Home and Community) (CHC33015).

"I currently work as a personal support worker but studying will give me the opportunity to go higher in the industry," said Renee.

"I love caring for people and it's something I have always wanted to do," she continued.

Choosing to study for the first time was a little daunting for Renee, but with the support of everyone Renee soon found it wasn’t as scary as she thought it would be.

“Being my first time studying it's been pretty good and everyone has been very supportive. The teachers have provided one-on-one guidance and have supported me every step of the way to ensure I have the knowledge and skills needed to succeed further in the field," said Renee.

If you’re working in the industry or just starting out, there is always something new to learn. Whether it’s new equipment, new techniques, skills or knowledge.

"I have enjoyed getting to meet new people, and learn new things I didn't know, even though I am currently working in the industry," she said.

"Most of the equipment at TAFE Queensland is the same as what I'm currently using in the workplace. However, there are a few things at TAFE that I haven't used before which I'm keen to try," she said.

As for Renee's advice to others considering studying with TAFE Queensland?

"You can learn at any age. You're never too old or too young to learn."
