The screen industry plays an important role in Australia's economy. The emergence of new technologies and wide range of job prospects means this is an exciting industry to be a part of. This course will give you the advanced skills required to work within this fast-paced dynamic sector.


Film and TV Production Stream
Learn a range of film-making skills needed for careers in the film, television and digital content industries. This advanced qualification is ideal for creative people seeking employment as a film-maker, editor, camera person, production manager, content creator or any of the multiple film and video crew roles.

Led by industry experts, this immersive and hands-on course will give you valuable screen production skills in directing, camera operation, lighting, sound recording, video editing, writing and producing. You’ll have the opportunity to design and produce your own short screen productions, as well as perform a variety of crew roles on multiple TAFE productions.


3D Animation and Visual Effects
This course is ideal for creative people wanting to gain skills in visual effects industries such as, 3D modelling and animation, compositing, real time movie making, movie titles, shooting footage for visual effects as well as video editing.

This course will give you the intermediate skills required to work within this exciting and challenging sector. Enhance your skills and job prospects by choosing to specialise in this field and learn how to model and animate 3D models, use real time engines to create production ready environments using our state-of-the-art lab fitted out with high end workstations, motion capture facilities, Wacom Cintiq drawing tablets, 3D printers, and 3D scanning equipment.

Learn how to create video titles, use our custom-built sound stage to shoot footage and green screen content, edit video footage, develop storyboards and combine all of this to create visual effects.

The VET Student Loans program assists eligible students enrolled in approved courses to pay their tuition fees.  The Australian Government charges full fee-paying (non-subsidised) students a 20 per cent loan fee in addition to their tuition fees.  A VET Student Loan is a debt that must be repaid.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Selection criteria

Domestic students

The following selection criteria requirements apply only to domestic students:

  • School leavers must have completed Year 12 or equivalent
  • Non school-leavers are selected according to eligibility and merit, vocational experience, previous study and personal competencies.
  • If you’re under 17 years of age, special enrolment conditions may apply.

 

International students
The following selection criteria requirements apply only to international students:

  • English Language Proficiency: Academic IELTS 6.0 (no individual band less than 5.5) or equivalent - For a list of all English Language tests accepted by TAFE Queensland International.
  • Academic Requirements: Completion of Year 12 (or equivalent). Non school-leavers must have relevant work experience or qualification that indicates likely success of course completion. View more information on the international education achievement levels equivalent to Year 10 and 12.

Applicants should be a minimum of 17 years of age and turning 18 during the first year of study with TAFE Queensland. International students who are under 18 years of age and are applying for a student visa are required by the Australian Department of Home Affairs to have adequate welfare arrangements in place.

Resources required

It is recommended that you have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software. This equipment and software are available for use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

You will also be required to have access to and bring to class some design resources and a portable external hard drive (500MG minimum). Details will be provided after enrolment or during orientation. 
Please note: the purchase of these items may incur additional costs of approximately $300.

It is also recommended that you have access to a computer capable of running Adobe Creative Suite software. This software can be purchased after enrolment to access a student discount price.

  • a Microsoft Windows 10 or 11 Operating System laptop or PC
    • Apple Mac, iPad are not compatible for this course
  • a portable Hard Drive preferably a 500 Gigabyte Solid State Drive (SSD)
