TAFE at School Foundation Programs

Get a head start on a vocational qualification while at school through our foundation programs.

TAFE at School Foundation Programs are designed for high school students who want to get a head start on their future career or further study, giving you the opportunity to complete units from TAFE Queensland Diploma courses while you’re still at school. By enrolling into a foundation program, you’ll complete select units from the first year of a TAFE Queensland Diploma course. These units count towards your QCE and provide direct credit into the full diploma, meaning you can fast-track your studies and gain real-world skills before you even finish school.

You’ll learn from industry professionals in state-of-the-art facilities, develop practical skills, and explore your passion in a supportive environment. Upon successful completion, you’ll have a Statement of Attainment for the units you’ve completed, QCE points, and a clear pathway to continue your studies.

TAFE Queensland offers a range of Foundation Programs across creative, health, and technology fields. Whether you’re interested in design, music, healthcare, or digital innovation, there’s a program to suit your interests and career goals. Check out a list of courses available below.

Foundation Program FAQ

Before you start your journey, you need to check your eligibility. You must be enrolled in Years 10, 11 or 12 and there may be other entry requirements depending on your chosen course and whether you wish to apply for a VET Student Loan. It’s important that your school is prepared to support you on your journey as well.

Yes.  Students who enrol in the course at school with the intention of completing the Diploma after school, and who meet the eligibility requirements prior to enrolment, can access a VET Student Loan.

No.  There is no minimum age to access VSL for an approved course.  However, if you are under the age of 18, your parent or guardian will need to sign the VSL parental consent form that TAFE Queensland sends you as part of your loan application process.  This is to ensure that a responsible adult is aware that you are incurring a real debt that must be repaid to the government through the tax system.

You may receive up to 1 QCE credit per unit of competency for this program, however an ATAR equivalent is not awarded until you have fully completed the full Diploma Qualification.
