14. Internal appeals and reviews
TAFE Queensland is committed to ensuring that decisions affecting students are made fairly and consistently. If you are dissatisfied with certain decisions made by TAFE Queensland, you may have the right to request an internal appeal or internal review.
An internal appeal or review provides an opportunity for an eligible decision to be independently re-examined. Different processes apply depending on the type of decision.
You may request an internal appeal for certain decisions relating to:
- assessment;
- attendance and academic progression; or
- student misconduct.
An internal appeal is considered by a Disciplinary and Appeals Committee that is independent of the original decision-maker.
You may request an appeal where you believe one or more of the following applies:
- the decision was grossly unreasonable;
- procedural requirements were not followed;
- relevant evidence was not considered, or irrelevant evidence was relied upon;
- new evidence has become available; or
- a penalty imposed was excessive or inappropriate.
Your appeal must be made in writing using the Internal Appeal Request Form within 20 business days of receiving notification of the original decision. You must include a copy of the original decision and any other relevant information or evidence supporting your appeal.
How to submit your request

- admission and enrolment;

- VET Student Loans and student loan re-credit matters;
- certain international student admission and enrolment matters; and
- certain Higher Education administrative decisions.
An internal review is undertaken by a reviewing officer who is independent of and no less senior than the original decision-maker.
The same grounds generally apply to an internal review, including where you believe procedural requirements were not followed, relevant evidence was not properly considered, new evidence is available, or the original decision was grossly unreasonable.
