Child Safety

TAFE Queensland is committed to a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for all students, especially those who are under 18, ensuring they feel safe, supported, respected, and heard.  This is summarised in our Statement of Commitment.

Queensland's child safeguarding law—the Child Safe Organisations Act 2024 (Qld) commenced from 1 October 2025. It aims to protect Queensland children from harm when they interact with businesses and organisations.

Under this law, businesses and organisations that work with children or provide services or spaces for them are required to introduce 10 Child Safe Standards, and some will be required to introduce a Reportable Conduct Scheme.

The Standards aim to create environments that prioritise the safety and wellbeing of children.

The Reportable Conduct Scheme commenced on 1 July 2026 and requires organisations, including TAFE Queensland, to report and investigate allegations of child abuse or misconduct by their staff and volunteers.

These two elements work together:

  • the Standards aim to prevent harm in businesses and organisations
  • the Reportable Conduct Scheme enables an appropriate response if harm or misconduct happens.

What should I do if I feel unsafe or something doesn’t feel right?

If you ever feel unsafe or uncomfortable, or if you’re worried about someone else, please speak up.  There are many options and we encourage you to select the one that is most comfortable for you, such as:

  • a trusted teacher
  • TAFE Services staff
  • Faculty Director
  • Student Support Services

Alternatively, you can provide feedback or raise a concern via our Feedback and Complaints process.

Any person external to TAFE Queensland but who has a concern about the safety of a child connected to TAFE Queensland can raise a concern via our Feedback and Complaints process.
